When your business becomes mission-focused, suddenly it’s no longer just about making and selling stuff.
It’s more about some kind of higher purpose, something about basic, eternal needs that transcend the current market, or the current market offering.
This purpose, I see as the “wings” of the business. The thing that will allow the company to fly high, as it were.
But a set of wings isn’t much use without the wind beneath them to provide the lift.
I see the people who work at the company as the ‘wind”. Without people, no company could exist.
Sure, “People are our greatest asset” is a tired, old, overused cliche, one that no one pays much attention to.
But I have yet to find a successful company where that tired, old, overused cliche didn’t also happen to be true.
