To honor our troops this Veterans Day, we made a little ebook of famous quotes on the nature of heroism.
Because that’s what Veterans are.
The word “hero” (and our veterans *are* heroes) comes from the Greek word for “protector”, for that is what they do.
They don’t just protect us from foreign invaders; to quote George Orwell, “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf”, they protect us from ourselves, by setting a good example, by doing what’s right, by stepping up, even when the world seems to have gone in the opposite direction.
And we need to thank them for that, not just on Veterans Day, but every day.
