It’s a funny thing about disruptive technology.
Sometimes the tech isn’t actually that disruptive.
Take Airbnb, it’s totally disrupting the hotel business. But if you look at the tech, it’s pretty ordinary. Storefronts integrated with calendars.
Or Uber. Same again. Totally disruptive. But all it is, is pre-existing map tech, with some communication apps.
What’s being disrupted here is human behavior, not the actual technology.
As Fred Wilson says, the best way to make money in tech is to solve problems. Not all big problems need science-fiction solutions, they just need to be made to go away.
