That was the thing. I was living in a big city, having a pretty good time of it (and least it looked that way, from the outside), but the truth was, I was having such an intense time with “the life of the mind” I didn’t really pay attention to my outside surroundings that much. I was too busy taking on the ideas I was finding in books.
Yes, and that made me really annoying to be around, in case you were wondering. Heh.
So I left the big city. No point paying 3-trillion dollars a month in rent of most of what you’re getting of value can be gotten from anywhere via the printed page, and don’t even get me started about the advent of Internet making this even more so.
The life of the mind is a beautiful thing to have. Just make sure you’re in it for the right reasons.
