Ah, sometimes one gets a single image that summarises the gestalt of a rich and varied culture built up over centuries of struggle, enlightenment, and sheer intellectual effort.
Then there is Scotland.

In June, I was riding a bus in Edinburgh, and two NEDs, as I was later told they were, were talking up a storm, not a word could I understand except F-ing this and F-ing that. There were either coming from, going to, or between pubs. All part of the cultural landscape of Scotland.

So funny to find this here. Was chatting with a friend about how this word is used in a bar setting like this.
