I’ve recently started using the Google Reader quite avidly. My shared items are here. Please add me to your friend list so I can see what you’re reading, too. Rock on.

I’d love to, but it’s not exactly easy to use. It says I need to add you in to google talk, however I can’t see any of my existing google talk people, so I have no idea how to get them on…..
my shared stuff is here if it’s of help:

🙂
Nic, sadly not rocking on.
I do find GR amazing. I think that it is a great way to share track and sort thru information.
I just subscribed to your shared items as we are not Google friends and I think that you will not want everyone to be your friend as it would be hard to manage. Still the subscribe option works great to push out your shared stuff to non friends.
Thanks for sharing 🙂
@Nic: No idea what you’re finding difficult.
If you use GChat on your gmail page, then just click on, erm, “Add Contact” and type in Hugh’s email address (which you’ll find on the front page of the blog).
In the GTalk desktop client, click on the “Add+” button and type in Hugh’s email address (which you’ll find on the front page of the blog).
Once Hugh has confirmed to Google that he is actually your best bosom buddy, you’ll find posts that Hugh thinks that *we* will find interesting listed in GReader under “Friends’ Shared Items” towards the top of the page.
If you’re not seeing *any* contacts listed in GTalk/GChat, then either none of your contacts have gmail/googlemail addresses, or they’re all offline.
Or, erm, you ain’t got none.
hth
Google now have fairly detailed instructions on how to share items with friends:

OK, I think I know what the problem is: I dont have a gmail account.
I have a Google Applications With Hosted Domains account (nicw at fastchicken.work.out.the.rest.). Both my wife and I share stuff via google reader, however I can’t see her, and she can’t see me.
I guess it requires you to be @gmail.com for it to work
🙁
Hugh,
I followed a link to your blog while looking for blogs on marketing and business. I like the observations on life that are mixed in with the business talk. The cartoons are nice bonus.
Thanks for the pointer on Google Reader. I joined today after reading this post.
