In my case, I can say that without sarcasm or bitterness that this is true and it’s a wonderful thing. An ideal is not an illusion.

I totally agree with Michael. After consulting a therapist to try and save a failing marriage, I did gain a couple of nuggets of wisdom:
1. You marry into a RELATIONSHIP – you don’t marry each other.
2. Every day, you make a choice to:
(a) work on your marriage, or
(b) work on your divorce.
There is no middle ground.
It’s really that simple.

Take out the cranky figure and it’s true the sentence could’ve been interpreted either way … 🙂

Great insight. I actually used your quote at a wedding service I did today, beautiful. You were given credit as I referred to you as one of my favorite thinkers who happens to do cartoons. Much love.
