This is the latest cube grenade I just did for Rackspace.

It’s one of my favorites I’ve done so far. [More Rackspace work is here.]

I hope you like it, but it’s OK if you don’t. Here’s why I’m partial:

I like the elegance of the drawing.
I like the way it’s talking about something specific to the business (i.e. the cloud), not just some vague, “Go Team!” cultural platitude.
I like the direct honesty of it. “We live or die by the cloud” etc. is basically the God’s honest truth; it doesn’t matter if one agrees with it or not. That IS Rackspace’s business strategy, in black and white.
It just works. Straight and to the point. It does everything a good cartoon ought to do.

I am enjoying my gig with Rackspace. Even if it’s still early days, they’re letting me play around with a new, HUGE idea. Yes, I am stoked.

It’s a terrific piece Hugh. Personally, I think that the blocks of colour that you use make a big difference. I don’t know enough about design to really know why, but the cube grenades with reds & blues seem to have extra pop.

And the message is good too. The only thing I’d change is to drop the second part – I think it would be even stronger with just the part about the cloud.

Loving all the “grenades” Hugh. I’m a Racker here at Rackspace and have to say this is the one that resonates with me the most. Thanks for doing this!

Here’s some feedback on this one though..

While we would love to always be better, the truth is we won’t be better at EVERYTHING. We will strive to of course, but really the key is that we are just DIFFERENT. We have a different way of thinking then the other guys out there.

So I’d switch one word to create this sentence ;)…

“We live or die by being DIFFERENT than the other guys”

Being different is easy. All you have to do is get everybody to turn up wearing pink bunny suits every morning 😀
