We keep forgetting that outliers aren’t normal.
Just as there are people who weigh over 400 pounds, there are executives who work 100-hour weeks and have zero life outside of the office. Both are outliers and should be regarded as such.
Those 100-hour workweek/zero real-life might work for maybe 1% of the population who are hardwired that way, for the rest of us, it would simply make us miserable.
So if you find a passion outside the office, completely unrelated to your job; choral singing, or spending time with your kids on the weekends- the last thing you should be feeling is guilt. You’re just normal, you’re just living.
And living is what it’s all about.
