In these times of political whack-a-mole, it’s good to remember that we Americans are, at our core, a nation of immigrants. Different peoples, different drums.
And we would be foolish to forget that: this is what made America great.
With that in mind, it’s a perfect time to revisit Emma Lazarus’ famous sonnet, “The New Colossus”, which she wrote to raise funds for the pedestal for the Statue Of Liberty.
The American way is inclusive, is welcoming, and is full of heart. As we commemorate Presidents’ Day, we remember what it is that really makes America great, and what makes our tradition worth celebrating.
