[A sketch from 2008….]
There you are, minding your own business, then suddenly you feel “The Call”.
The call to do something totally insane and futile.
But you know you have to do it. You know that if you don’t, a little part of you will be dead forever.
I’ve been feeling a wee bit like that recently. I’ve been feeling another “DesertManhattan” [large painting] calling my name.
“You must create me, Hugh. You simply must. I have to exist, end of story. You have no choice in the matter”.
Aaaargh….

art.
🙂
Yep, but ya gotta go with it. Even if you can only work on it a little at a time.

Dude, you have a call to be answered, for sure. your sketch in this post is the real deal.
Cool!
A couple days ago I let myself slip into that humongous “30,000 Years Of Art,” at B & N for 2 hours. I like the early (and any,) Italian and pretty-much the 1850 to 1950 stuff best. You’re that good too. Heed the call.
Yes, create, it’s all there is. Well, love too, of course. But create!!
This reaffirms why I’m looking to do something insane and (probably) futile.
What a succinct post that touches deeply into us all for the need to create, and do something but simply for the fun of it.
Thanks!
It’s a voice that can’t be silenced, unfortunately. Probably a good thing, but almost always comes at inconvenient times. Sigh.
I sometimes hear a distant call to do something ‘worthwhile’ and ‘profitable’. I try to ignore it
That happens to me all the time to the point that sometimes I have to get up in the middle of the night to get started working on it, otherwise I won’t be able to sleep!!!
It would be awesome, and I would be grateful, if you could take some time to write a bit about what your process was for creating DesertManhattan.
What were you thinking about? What were your goals? Composition? Balance? Or did this just come kind of stream of consciousness?
If you wrote something like this already, I apologize. Point me in the right direction.
Nice work as always.
