So why is “Happiness” such a big deal in management circles these days?
Who cares how “happy” your team is, so long as they’re achieving results?
Short answer: Because maybe, just maybe, happiness and productivity are connected.
Which is why lot of people who are just focused on results, don’t have any to speak of.
Happiness matters. If it did not, nature wouldn’t have evolved it to be so complex and nuanced in our psyches.
That being said, as important as I think happiness might be for performance, I’m not a hippy, either. I don’t believe people should be blissed out at work, just because it’s fashionable.
Like anything worthwhile in business, it doesn’t come easy; it’s something you have to fight like hell for.
