The point here is not, “gratitude and trust are just good things to have in an organization”. Everyone knows how places that have people who trust their colleagues, and are grateful to be working with them, will perform better than the alternative. Of course they will.
The point here is, it’s hard to have one without the other.
People don’t feel grateful in a climate of distrust. Far from it, they feel resentful as hell, even if you’re paying them more than normal. And conversely, when people feel resentful, trust goes out the window.
And then the nasty tailspin begins. And everybody wonders why the venture failed. Not pretty.
