None of us got to choose our genetics. Some of us got lucky with them.
Quick wit or a great mathematical mind or whatever it is are gifts, but to make them worthwhile, you need work ethic.
Why?
Because it’s lovely to be smart, but to be great, you have to be reliable.
For people to need you, they have to know you’ll be there. They have to trust you. They have to know when you say you’ll meet a deadline, that they won’t be up all night in the office waiting for the spreadsheets that will never come.
We make our parents proud with our genius, but with our work ethic, we make something of ourselves.
