My first job was at a wine bar on Charlotte Square, the fanciest address in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The wine bar was where the town’s fanciest folk would come to get sloshed after a hard day’s work in the legal and financial sectors.
Every now and then, one of these fancy folk would get kind of loud, drunk, and obnoxious, and often, too often, when we’d try to calm them down, the words, “Do you know who I am?” would bellow out from them.
OK, so you’re some drunk, rich dude who fancies himself. So what?
This experience taught me that we’re all sinners, that we’re all fallible, and that we all screw up.
So it’s best to stay humble. And avoid all that “Don’t you know who I am” pomposity.
