The secret to long-lasting impact? Small steps.
It is not secret that people don’t like change — especially people who say they love change. And that’s completely reasonable. Change comes with a learning curve, and change temporarily holds you back.
And yet….
It’s the small changes that make the most impact. It’s not about building something huge every time; everyone, including employees and customers, wants to see changes that are smaller but more effective, that allow them to hold on to what they love while making it better.
Jeff Rodman, CEO of Polycom, explained his small change philosophy, he wrote:
Instead of becoming obsessed with big, ask yourself questions like: “What’s the smallest change we could make in our product, our delivery, our distribution, our organizational structure, or our communication?” Even better are questions that force you to add by subtraction: “What could we take away from those same areas to make them better and simplify the process?”
Significant change does not have to happen at the expense of your product; it is embracing your product. It is amplifying strengths. It is bringing yourself closer to your core.
