Joy makes you feel expansive and outward-looking.
Think of Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy” in the Ninth Symphony. It’s hardly and act of orchestral introspection.
Whereas, anger makes you turn inwards, makes you focus on yourself.
I like Lama Marut’s idea: that the best way to be happy is to think about other people; the best way to be unhappy is to think of yourself. I suppose that’s also what they mean when they say, “T’is more blessed to give than to receive.”
