There’s this very romanticized idea of creativity, that the artist sits and waits to be struck by lightning/an idea, and from all of that time sitting they’re able to create something revolutionary.
But it’s not like that.
Steven Johnson, in his TED talk Where Good Ideas Come From, shares a completely different explanation:
Ideas come from other people.
Ideas come from what you know and what’s happening around you.
New ideas are combinations of old ideas, built upon knowledge you have.
The idea of solitary creation is totally off. Innovation comes from change, and the first step to change is interaction.
