So, when one is fighting the business culture war (i.e. trying to build an amazing culture at the office), one question you need to ask is, how in line is our culture with our mission, our purpose?
A laid-back culture that likes to go home early and not work weekends might be pleasant and agreeable, but it won’t get very far if it’s trying to compete with Apple.
Or a company that rewards its rockstars and completely neglects the back office might be an exhilarating place to strut one’s stuff, just don’t expect the back office to take a bullet for you.
Achieving culture and purpose is all about knowing who you are and what you want. And that’s far harder than it sounds, thank goodness.
