If you ever hang around a major Hollywood film set, one thing that really stands out is how nice and polite the director is. Nothing like the stereotype of the guy wearing jodhpurs and a beret, yelling manically through a bullhorn.
Why? Because the director can’t do his job unless everybody is doing their best. You need other people. You need the actors and the technicians and the carpenters and everyone else all hitting the ball out of the park.
And they won’t swing for the ball, let alone hit it if they don’t like you.
Remember this the next time you see a beautiful, brilliant film, one where you know that it was the pinnacle of creativity… something that is hard to conceive how it was created?
Imagine if you were able to harness THAT kind of creativity and dedication to your project.
What works for film sets works for teams in general: aligning, affirming and supporting is what master directors are doing.
