The thing about reaching the summit is that you never stay there very long.
When they get to the top of Everest, the usual thing is to stay half an hour and then head on down, before it gets too dark and or before the weather changes for the worse.
This, after weeks on the mountain and years before that in preparation. All for a lousy half hour of personal glory.
This is why the best performers tend to keep on setting new goals, rather than just fixating on one big one. Because they know life is long, and victory is inherently short-lived.
