This is a simply brilliant line by Lily Tomlin, the famous comedian.
Eventually one has to stop comparing oneself to other people, what I call “comparing your inside with someone else’s outside”.
They say the greatest human tragedy is that we undervalue our own experiences. Which means instead of trying to make our own movie, we spend our lives trying to be the next Kubrick. Or trying to be the next Tolstoy instead instead of writing our own damn book. Or trying to be the next Elon Musk instead of just building our own company.
You only have one life, and in order to live it properly, you have to start actually being you for a change. Not easy.
But it is one of the few prizes worth really fighting for.
