There is no one ‘right’ kind of organizational culture, and none are perfect. That said, the benefit of having a well understood and socialized culture is that people know the boundaries of what is and isn’t okay.
This is spread and reinforced by culture carriers, people who live and breathe your culture because it works, but also because there is a well executed plan for Culture Science©. The idea that you can, and must design the culture that you want to have.
In the absence of a designed culture you have randomness. It’s no different than trying to construct a building without a blueprint.
A designed culture provides people with boundaries, so fewer rules are needed, and it really doesn’t matter if anyone is looking.
