Socializing is a learned behavior.
When we go out and have fun, drinks after work or whatever it is, we’re showing what we’ve learned — how to communicate, what to talk about.
We spend time with each other to learn how to interact with each other.
And we play to prepare ourselves for that big step.
It’s like dreaming about big meetings before they happen – we play to create a safe practice space. Play is how we safely prepare ourselves to cope with real life at a later date.
And how do we learn to play? By copying others, of course.
Play is not some trivial activity that’s done at the expense of doing real work. Play is integral to the real work.
