One truth about fear:
To get over fear, you have to confront it.
Two truths about failure:
1. It is highly unlikely that it will never happen to you.
2. The only way to make sure it never happens to you is to never do anything ever.
Avoiding failure is built into our DNA, because not too long ago failure meant being eaten by a hyena, and our nature is geared to avoid those kinds of things.
Learning how to avoid the hyena has allowed us to reach a point in human evolution where the cost of failure is much lower, and yet, the same level of fear still exists.
What gives?
Embracing failure puts you in charge of your fears. Not being afraid to talk about mistakes and bad choices empowers you to learn from all of your experiences, even the ones that you’d like to forget.
And if we’re trying to make the world more transparent, this kind of bravery is what we need.
