My friend Lloyd Davis, a self-proclaimed “Social Media Tart”, is looking for work. He’s based in London. I know him well, and regard him highly. Besides that, I’ve also hired him in the past, and was delighted to have him around. Here’s the skinny.
[Bonus Link:] A well-respected journalist writes something fairly non-contentious on his employer’s blog and loses his job overnight [Non-contentious as in, the guy’s entitled to his opinion, even if you disagree with him]. David St. Lawrence explains.
[Answer to the question:] “Do A-Listers have a responsibility to link to Z-Listers?” I think not. Even if you’ve got a huge amount readers, it’s your blog, not the blogosphere’s blog.
Nope, A-Lister’s have a responsibility to one thing and that’s simply to write genuinely about what ever it is they write about. If you see something from a Z-Lister interesting enough to converse over or share with your reader’s then I think linking to it is a pretty fair and genuine as attribution if nothing else.
I’m not even on the list, let alone way down in the Z’s but I’m happy enough to know I don’t get readers because my waffle sucks, not because the cool kids aren’t linking to me.
Nice try on making out your a hard ass Hugh, we all know your a total sweetheart after your “Evil plan”…
i like how the drone has an environmental context in this drawing– ie, he isn’t in a void like your usual characters.
and also: you don’t have to link to anyone, ever. but it’s still a nice thing to do.
Hugh, the link for the David St.Lawrence article is a bit off (I think its either the article before or after).
As for linking…I link to people with good content. Period. I don’t care if its an A, Z, or X blogger (though the X bloggers are more fun).
Now this will make an outstanding welcome mat or door plaque!!!
Oh yeah, the z lister thing…. strictly speaking no, but if you do not, we will remove your organs with broken wine bottles and feed them to you, bit by bit.
So log in and vote now

I may not have made it clear that the well-respected journalist wrote the article on his employer’s blog.
You can mess with your readership all you want, just don’t mess with your employer’s readership.
Thanks for the link!
Even if a X-Lister gets an A-Lister link, it gives him nothing but a short term spike in the visitor curve. Readership has to grow naturally, even though there may be exceptions. It is YOU that grows while trying to grow your readership!
X-Listers should seek the advise of and relation to the A-Lister, not just single links.
Ahhh…the deadly X List virus is spreading.
Soon I’ll be more evil than Hugh (who is, of course, more evil than Microsoft).
BTW…is it any wonder everyone wants to get on the X List? Much more fun. X Listers are sexier than A Listers, and get invited to more parties than Z Listers.
Oh, and David, yes, you’re a biter but don’t worry, I still love you (’cause I can’t afford to hate anyone amassing a weapon collection in his basement).
I am SO getting kicked off Hugh’s blog.
Back to the X List I go.
is there a reason there is no link to the full version of the ‘cube of destiny’?
I really want to print out a high quality one to hang on my corkboard 🙂
