My favorite cognitive bias is that if I’m successful, it’s because I rock, and if I fail, it was somebody else’s fault.
Whatever result I get, this gives me permission to feel better about myself, either way. Win-win.
Luckily I’m not alone. It seems that most people in business have the same bias that I do. It seems to go with the territory. The trouble with this, of course, is that it’s wrong.
Don’t waste your life blaming others. Especially don’t let other people do the same, not if you hope to be successful.
