Someone recently asked what I think is more important for business hiring: culture or skill.
Sounds like one of those, standard interview questions an HR person would ask. Well, I think it depends on your culture.
When you think about your core. You as a person, what do you aspire to? For your business, what do you aspire to? And with your team, what gets you fired up?
If there’s not a pattern here, you may have a problem.
When you think about accomplishing really, really great things. Like disrupting a regulated industry. Getting things done feels like a pretty great core.
I hope it’s lived. I hope it gets you promoted. I hope the things that get in the way of it get you fired.
That would be a great culture.
Because if your culture isn’t about empowering the best out of people, and their skills, your hiring process has a much bigger problem.
