This is an idea that’s gotten a lot of mileage since its debut, over five years ago.
It works well, of course, simply because it’s true.
If Gapingvoid ever stood for anything, it was for this: Making a difference. Mattering. And doing so via the workplace, the day job, not just evenings and weekends.
I realize that this is not a path for everybody. For one thing, it’s really, really hard to pull off. Not to mention, it usually takes up far too much time and energy to fit into your average comfortable, suburban, consumerist, TV-guzzling lifestyle.
That being said, if you’re one of those outlier weirdoes who, like me, feel a particular calling to create something meaningful at work, whatever the cost, well, this lets you know that you’re not alone.
Enough said.
So true, unfortunately most people figure this out too late!
