If I understand the message of this piece of art, I strongly object to it. All that live here are connected– life connects us all and environment. Even animals have feelings, certainly all human beings have the same. There is too much to be said about our similarities and differences to try to reduce it to a few simple words. We are complicated .
So I wrote back:
“Hey L, thanks for writing in…
“Point taken, but the cartoon isn’t about what we *say in public* on a good day, it’s what we *think in private* on a bad one.
“And that is where the tension lies; that’s the place where cartoons work the best: Within the cracks that we try hardest to conceal.
