Today’s “Daily Bizcard” design, “Thank You Sir”, goes to BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, who’s having, shall we say, one bitch of a week.
Oh well, I guess that’s why he gets paid the big bucks…
Of course the current oil slick is horrendous. In spite of that, I’m no more one of those anti-big-oil people than I was before. My father, a geologist, was in the oil business for a good chunk of his working life. I also used to work in the oil business when I was a kid in college, offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
At the end of the day, oil is dirty, nasty, dangerous stuff to get out of the ground. And every now and then, sadly, we are reminded of this. “Cut down our dependence on oil”? If that lever existed, we’d have pulled it long ago. Don’t get me started…
[The Daily Bizcard archive is here etc.]
[Carl-Henric, please send me an e-mail at [email protected] with your shipping address and the details you want on the back of the bizcard, and I’ll send a free box of 100 to you. Thanks!]
As much as I enjoy your writings you’re WAY off on this one. Our “dependence on oil” has not been cut down because the oil industry owns the U.S. government. Take a look at who makes the big camapign contributions; the U.S. government was bought and paid for a long time ago. So the line “if that ever existed we’d have pulled it long ago” is misinformed. It hasn’t been pulled because certain people calling ths hsots don’t want it pulled. Welcome to American politics, if you’ve been living in the States a while you should be use to it. One big melodramatic freak show full of puppets to keep an apathetic public pacified while the monarchy consolidaqtes its wealth.
Have you ever once heard a polititian say “please drive five miles less a week?”
Thanks Hugh.
It’s refreshing to hear this point of view and not just parrot the politically correct axiom of “big oil”.
BTW, the reason why the leak is so hard to contain is because BP was forced to drill in such deep waters due to Government regulations prohibiting them to drill closer to shore.
But do not fret, Obama is on it:
“Plug the damn hole!” http://goo.gl/xAVT
I would say we haven’t pulled that lever because we are a society is all about the now and the pleasure. And not about the future. I think this comic sums it up.

Ha, ha, ha…
BP Chairman, who ever all you people are. We want you to know that we the people of the gulf coast are pissed off as hell. You all are nothing but a bunch of greedy friken liars. You have destroyed the livlihood of so many people and have destroyed so much environment and have killed so much wild life. And whatever conglamerate countries are involved, let’s go drill off your land and have it right in your backyard and see how you like it. I hope that you all go DOWN!! Never to do what has happened here again. I boycott BP GREED will destroy the world.
Carl Henric Svanberg looks like you are getting what you deserve although at the expense of the US. What are you hiding from? Looks like BP will divorce you now – as you wife did recently for too many marital affairs. looks like you should be spending more time on the affairs of BP than on your own affair with a married swedish woman now living in the US – yes, it’s all in the Swedish gossip mags! Your visits should be for business not pleasure!!
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall………………
Don’t you think your reaction against the Chairman is unfounded? The CEO runs the company, the Chairman is but a MC at the boardmeetings.
I have to agree with CHS that the CEO is the only spokesperson for the company.
While people are upset at BP – mouthing off should be curtailed to lay blame where it should fall.
His marital business – is exactly that his business. I worked in his previous company and he did a lot of good and led the company well.
So this kind of comments – is really uncalled for.
I kinda agree with chs supporter… his marital life is private.
The cartoon really wasn’t about Carl Hendric. It was more about the media…
Like that you hit this one out of the park… Maybe the greenie wackos will finally figure this out…
