[“Big Love”. The Stormhoek label we designed for Valentine’s day 2007]
In 2006 my client, Stormhoek, a small South African winery had a lot of fun sposoring “100 Geek Dinners”.
We like sponsoring geek dinners. We really do. So we want to do more. Lots more.
[The “100 Geek Dinners” logo from 2006]
We’re not sure how many geek dinners we’ll be sponsoring. We chose the number “2000” just because [A] it sounds good and [B] it’s much larger than last year’s “100”.

The plan is to start doing it in Britain, via Facebook.
So if you have an upcoming UK event happening on Facebook, and you feel you might want a wine sponsor there on the night, please drop me a line and I’ll check it out. It doesn’t have to be a big event; in fact I personally prefer the small ones. Just so long as it’s an interesting evening. Thanks. Rock on.
How about a post FOWA party? (Hint: I’m coming over for that one)
Please do come to Austria too. Not that we don’t have any wine here, but it is not Stormhoek.
Good thing Illinois just joined the UK!
Or not…
But as soon as your doing them in the US, I’ll round up the Chicago Twitterati and we’ll geek it up with Stormhoek.
I’ll admit that Hugh has sparked this quasi-wino’s interest. I went to my local Brooklyn liqour store and:
Clerk– “Can I help you?”
Me– “Where do you keep the South African wine?”
The clerk looks at him like he’s from Mars (or Africa).
Me–(sighs) Can I just have some Two-Buck Chuck?
Clerk– red or white?
Anyway, long story short, does anyone no where/if I can get this in NYC? In sticking with the principles laid out in the earlier Facebook post, I figured this would be the best place to ask. Thanks.
I’m in! I have 4,999 friends in Facebook, so have lots of opportunity to do wine dinners. Maybe you’re thinking too small.
Best Cellars in NY have the Pinotage. Great that they are continuing Hugh.
Gratsi, Rachel. I owe you a ‘clink at said geek-dinner.
I’ll admit that Hugh has sparked this quasi-wino’s interest.
@ Seth: I had a similar ordeal in a wine shoppe in Seattle – “South African wine? I’m not sure that we’re able to import from there… (!)
So first order of business, Hugh, is to make sure that Customs has been informed that you can export to Seattle, USA. š
Say Hugh, were your ears burning? I mentioned you re our little Microsoft romp when I was interviewed on “The Marketer’s Podcast” by Alan Stewart… Alan is a wonderful Aussie doing some great work on educating the world on marketing via poscasts, SEO, etc. He’s on http://www.themarketerspodcast.com and has ~40 interviews so far — good stuff. Go check him out. Oh, I’d bet he’d love an interview with you. Two special people having a chat and recorded for history/posterity, whateverity. Would you be up for it? You could capture some of those gems from your Microsoft campus visit. Take care, -Kris
Oh! I do hope you will be sponsoring dinners in the US by November. I know this popular blogger in Miami Beach who is celebrating her 40th year on this planet with her nearest and dearest geek/blogger friends. She would love to have some Stormhoek on that day! š
