private commission: “love is the only real adventure”- tara and remi

Send to Kindle

Tara commissioned me to do a large original ink-on-paper for her boyfriend, Remi’s birthday.

Tara and Remi have been a couple for just over two years. Recently they went to India and had a REAL adventure together.

So I did something incorporating “Love” and “Adventure”. It seemed to fit, it seemed to describe their relationship.

I drew the black lines on my Tablet PC, then printed it out LARGE with archival inks and archival fine art paper.

I then painstakingly added the red by hand, using old-fashioned dip pen and India ink.

While I was working on it, I took a lot of photos as the piece progressed. I was terrified the whole time of spilling that red ink bottle, or making a big mistake I couldn’t repair. That would have been an utter disaster! Luckily, neither happened.

Like their relationship, drawing the piece also felt like a real adventure, and I wanted that quality to be apparent in the execution.

Yes, it took forever, but we got a really powerful piece in the end. Hooray!

Thanks to Tara for commissioning such an awesome bit of work. It was a blast.

[Though I haven’t talked about it too much on the blog, yes, I do private commissions. Feel free to contact me at gapingvoid@gmail.com if you want to discuss further, Thanks.]
