My name is Hugh. I’m  a car­too­nist. I have a news­let­ter, “Hugh’s Daily Car­toon”, which I send out five mor­nings a week (Sign up below). A wee chuc­kle in your inbox, to start your day off on the right foot (so to speak).

Actually, it’s a little bit more than that. I try to make car­toons that pro­voke, make peo­ple think, make peo­ple feel moti­va­ted. Carpe diem etc.

Any­way, it seems your friend wan­ted to turn you onto all this, so  I hope you will subsc­ribe.

“Back in the day, I wor­ked at a little tech law firm in Chi­cago in a role that would take too long to explain (not as a law­yer), and at the time I was kind of obses­sed with the notion of how you could run a law firm like a tech com­pany. Blogs like yours and Kathy Sierra’s kept me moti­va­ted in what could’ve been a really demo­ti­va­ting place.

“Fast for­ward to now, and that little place got absor­bed into a big one, and to paraph­rase someone, I tired of trying to teach the dino­saur about the meteor. I make stuff. I went back to school to learn how to make bet­ter stuff. But there wasn’t a job wai­ting at the end of school, so I’m having to make one up for myself. The ‘glo­bal mic­ro­brand’ dis­cus­sions loom large in my mind when I think about how to do this. I wouldn’t desc­ribe myself as the entre­pre­neu­rial type; I’m shy, and risk makes me queasy, but the alter­na­tive just isn’t right. And the e-mail in my inbox day-in day-out, reminds me that the soo­ner i start doing smar­ter work, the bet­ter. That a decent paycheck isn’t the same thing as a good job. That you can go from being cyni­cal to ins­pi­red, depen­ding, and not be enti­rely crazy. Well, at least not the bad kind of crazy. And that helps.
