I feel like this all the time…
When I was young and stupid, I used to think that the life of an artist was quite glamorous- lots of parties, living in a big city loft, having these big, heroic, existential “confrontations with the canvas”.
Like I said, I was young and stupid…
A slave to your art work? A slave to your blog? A slave, like, in a corporate jobby job? Luckilly, it’s only a paper gun. This is not a pipe. 🙂
I second Steve’s question. A slave to the corporate world, or a slave to the party scene that all artists were supposed to follow?
I wouldn’t have lasted two seconds in that scene, introvert that I am.
Nice! And I hope someone will use that gun to shoot me if I don’t make it out of my crappy day job by the end of this year.
Hilarious, Hugh!;-)
Worse combination is old and stupid.
I trust you will not use that gun,ever;-)
i.
The life of an artist can be glamor and parties and hot dates, but only AFTER the hard work, long hours and constant struggle to make your next big momentous project better than your last!
Now that should be offered as a print! You already have a good chance of catching me in a splurgy mood with the prints on there – but that one even more. Damn limited budget. I have an entire blank wall to fill.

I used to tell my friends “If I ever act like that, I give you permission to punch me in the face.” This is like the grown up version of that statement.
I love it.
oh, and by the way, i love your work Hugh. It’s badass. I see you’re in Texas. Let me know next time you’re in Austin and we can catch up.
so what exactly do you think bout art now? i believe that u are not young and stupid anymore lol
this could also be a very sci-fi looking doberman pinscher
ha!
A slave to what you don’t want.
I feel exactly the same way….that’s why I started a blog after reading your book…
