Interesting concept this thing called 'hard work' (or even 'working your ass off'). It is sort of the obligatory ingredient to rattle off whenever a success story is telling their tale. And yet, it is full of paradoxes. 'Success' may require 'hard work', but 'hard work' is certainly no sure fire path to 'success'. Also, when it coomes to things that one is most passionate, these seem like the least 'work' and the least 'hard' no matter how much energy and time is expended. Think of an all night session of romantic frenzy. On the other hand, a few minutes of mind-numbing boredom or inanity can be torture worse than weeks slaving on the chain gang.

I guess 'hard work' is defined by carrying on even though you are depleted. Your time in your schedule and your calories in your veins is used up...and yet you carry on. 'Carrying on beyond depletion' is my defintion of the 'good' form of 'hard work'. Maybe when it comes to inane and insane work characteristic of corporate life the 'depletion' just hits your quicker despite the time and energy expended.
