“ignore everybody” prints on their way

P5200062.JPG
[Me signing copies of “Ignore Everybody” earlier this week. 25 boxes, 40 books in each…]
With my upcoming book launch less than three weeks away, we decided to published prints from some of the cartoons found in the book.
The book has eighty-odd cartoons in it, I’ve made a shortlist of fourteen [See Below], from which I’ll actually print up three in the next couple of weeks, to coincide with the books hitting the shops [UPDATE: I’ve also included two or three cartoons that aren’t in the book, but maybe should have been etc.].
These prints will be smaller than the last ones [approx 9“x14” i.e. roughly the same dimensions as my MacBook] and cheaper [around $100-$125 for one, around $300 for the set]. They may be black and white only, or we may use maybe one color, we’re not sure yet.
In spite of their small size, like last time, they will be signed, and will be printed as high-quality silkscreens.
Upmarket Cube Grenades. Exactly.
Here is the shortlist. Feel free to leave your feedback in the comments, Thanks!

  1. Anne Johnson says:

‘Wolf v Sheep’ is continually thought provoking — implied costs of aspiration, etc
’Market for something to believe in’ has a fine balance of drawing combined with fact or metaphysics, with a choice of interpretation .. those are the two I’d want for provoking discussion
    Anne

  2. Peter Hodder-Williams says:

1 vote for “Quality”. Already on my wall — be nice to have a decent print of it.

  3. Jody Reale says:

The problem is: I love them all. *sob*

  4. Andrew Munro says:

I vote for Wolf vs. Sheep — wonderfully thought provoking; horribly true. Also, to have it in colour would be great rather than plain b/w.

  5. C.C. Chapman says:

I’d go for Quality or Welcome to..

  6. Betsy says:

If I could only pick one, it would be quality. If I could pick 3 it would be quality, its not what the software does, and the dinosaur one because the expression on his face is freakin’ evil. :)
    Thanks!

  7. Siona says:

The market for something to believe in, please.
    Please.

  8. Wolf vs Sheep, Quality, The Hughtrain

  9. Todd Schnick says:

    QUALITY and HUGHTRAIN are musts!

  10. kcneon says:

Dinosaur makes me laugh…maybe because I’ve known too many folks who don’t have a clue they’re wasting time! But hard to pick as they’re all good.

  11. Helz says:

I agree all of the ones featured on this list are fantastic, and would look great on my wall.
    Top Three:
     – Quality
     – Mistakenly
     – Wolf V. Sheep
    Ok, Four:
     – Thriving in Markets
I’m really looking forward to reading the book.

  12. gogonel says:

i like the welcome to “nobody cares”

  13. Stacy Lang says:

I vote for Dinosaur, Wolf Vs Sheep, and The Hughtrain. Although all of them are awesome.

  14. Fred K says:

We need to talk. Seriously. ;)

  15. Greg says:

    I vote the Dinosaur!

  16. Andrea says:

They are all really good, which does not make the choice easy.
I can see the faces of people I have worked with over the years who would benefit from reading all or any of these.
These are my favourites, in order of preference:
    QUALITY
    THE HUGHTRAIN
    THRIVING IN MARKETS
But, as I said, ALL really good. Good luck having to choose only one.

  17. Jeff Harbert says:

My votes: Mistakenly, Wolf vs Sheep, The Hughtrain.

  18. Jo-Ann says:

    At risk of being repetitive:
Hughtrain, Sheep, Quality, with Dinosaur a close 4th.

  19. Susan says:

Hughtrain, Dinosaur, and Mistakenly. Hughtrain is brilliant, Dinosaur is both funny and insightful, and Mistakenly is just way too true.

  20. Jeff says:

I have to vote for Quality, The Hughtrain, Thriving Markets and I Don’t Have Friends.
Ideally i envision all 4 (9x14 or 10x12) in black and white, in one frame with some thick matting. It would completely encapsulate my life at this moment in time.

  21. Hannah says:

Mistakenly or If You Talked To People. I also like I Don’t Have Friends.

  22. Not Wolf vs Sheep; you just did that. Limited editions benefit from being, well, limited. ;-)
“Mistakenly” would be my favorite, “We need to talk” next.

  23. Josh C says:

I vote for Quality, Mistakenly, and Wolf vs. Sheep. Would be honored to have these on my wall.

  24. “Software” would be my top vote, but I’m biased (It’s on the back of my business card). “Job One” and “Dinosaur” would be my next picks.
Question on the book — honest answer needed — how well will the Kindle version be? Given the cartoons, I’m wondering if this is one of those titles that work better in print.

  25. Brilliant all. I love where you’re going with this, Hugh. Rock on.

  26. Amar Rama says:

    1. If you talk to people
    2. Quality
    3. It is not what the software does

  27. Simon says:

Quality and The Hughtrain get my vote.

  28. George says:

Love ‘em all. In no particular order, I vote:
    1. software/user
    2. quality
    3. advertising

  29. I’m voting for
    1) WELCOME TO…
    2) It’s not what the software does
    3) Quality

  30. J. Smith says:

talk to people the way advertising… punch you in the face.

  31. Parastoo says:

Here’s the list of all the one’s I would order:
    1. Hughtrain (a must)
    2. Quality
    3. Wolf/sheep
    4. Welcome to…
    5. Mistakenly
    6. Dinosaur
Love it. And thanks for hearing us.

  32. Ric says:

I have hughtrain and mistakenly on t-shirts, and they get my vote for top 2; and I have software, thriving in markets on business cards …
(the other two I have on cards are network is more powerful than node and not a science project).
Wolf vs Sheep and quality are probably next for cards …

  33. Anna says:

Nobody’s voting for “When I think of you I see angels” ?
I guess I’m thus far the lone wolf out on this, but of the cartoons here it is the one that made me stop & think — which I do so appreciate. At first I didn’t get it. It sounded like a sweet sentiment — which seemed oddly suspicious. Then I thought about it & realized what a Devilishly biting quip it truly is.
    Very clever! Thanks.

  34. Kat K. says:

I vote for Wolf vs. Sheep. It’s been my favorite Hugh cartoon ever since I first found the blog.

  35. Vote to “nobody cares”…

  36. Quality
    Nobody Cares

  37. David says:

These are awesome. Keep them coming.

  38. Miriam says:

One Quality please :) Love the dino too.
oh and still waiting on when you’re going to add the ‘only the talented fret about mediocrity’ one
    Cheers!
    Miriam

  39. Chloe says:

‘Mistakenly’ is my all-time favourite. ‘Sheep/Wolf’ and ‘The market for something to believe in’ are also right up there. But they are all awesome!

  40. Tim says:

    Talked to People
    Quality
    and
    Thriving In Markets.
Please oh please oh please. Talked To People will be the ultimate cube grenade for an ad agency.

  41. My votes for “Professional/Work” Cube Grenades
    1) Hughtrain
    2) Quality
    3) Wolf v Sheep
My votes for “Personal” Living room Grenades — because I’d like to spark these conversations at home, too.
    1) Angels
    2) Welcome to
    3) We need to talk.
    Thanks! mjl

  42. Herdmeister says:

Love ‘em all but my money’s always going to be on Hughtrain. Genius

  43. Mac Fowler says:

I’d love to have any of my top four hanging in my office:
    QUALITY
    THRIVING IN MARKETS
    WOLF VS. SHEEP
    COMPANY HIERARCHY

  44. Malcolm More says:

    Votes as follows:
    1) Quality (with some strategically placed asterisks please…)
    2) The Hughtrain

  45. J.R. says:

    Hugh,
    My votes are for:
    We Need To Talk
    Quality
    Thriving in Markets

  46. Shripriya says:

I’ve used Quality twice in the past couple of weeks, including in a blog post.
    So
    1. Quality
    2. Nobody cares
    3. I don’t have friends…

  47. Fanch says:

    Hello,
    I vote for :
    1. GOOD FOR YOU
    2. COMPANY HIERARCHY
and 3. IT’S NOT WHAT THE SOFTWARE DOES
    ;o)

  48. Berry says:

So, would selling a meteor to a dinosaur be like selling an online news site to a newspaper editor?

  49. gemils says:

    My votes are for:
    1) Quality
    2) It’s Not What The Software Does
    3) Hughtrain

  50. Roberte3 says:

    1) I love Quality and will buy it the second its offered.
One that isn’t on the list that has been taped over my bed for years is, “If the fucker doesn’t cost your your life it isn’t quest”. Right under a print of Picasso’s Don Quixote. Would love a real print of that one.

  51. BrianSJ says:

    1. softare/user
    2. dinosaur/meteor
    3. company hierarchy
These are at the more public end of social objects.
We need to talk, and wolf/sheep are at the personal end. More for home than the cube.

  52. claire says:

Do them all. Do them all. Do them all .
    Pleeeeeease.
I already have most of them printed out. I can see the set now. I have the space on my wall ready.
    Total. Utter. Genius. Nae jesting!

  53. joe goldberg says:

    Wolf Vs Sheep
    If You Talked to People
Market For Something To Believe In.
Would love to get a set of these. A total inspiration

  54. Rose Thun says:

The book arrived last night; I read half the night and am still reeling in joy. This book is a gem.
    thank you!
