desertmanhattan update

The final ink layer is about half done, which by my rec­ko­ning makes the whole thing about 75% com­ple­ted. Quite plea­sed with it, so far. Quite exci­ted to have it finally finished, one of these days…
The last 25% of a large dra­wing is always the har­dest. You’re so anxious to get it over and done with, the temp­ta­tion to take “short­cuts” gets har­der and har­der to resist. Star­ting a big pain­ting is easy. Finishing one is a nightmare.

   Saw your tweet as i was hea­ding outside to paint.
   I’m very intri­gued by your India ink layer. I’d love to hear about the ins­pi­ra­tion and sig­ni­fi­cance of the cha­rac­ters. It’s funny, I pain­ted murals so many years that I have dif­fi­culty with small can­vas. Love the size you’re using and monoch­ro­ma­tic very serene. Where do you show your work?

   Hey I like this, little islands of chaos, it’s like the real essence of indi­vi­dua­lism, taken as a whole it is somewhat homo­ge­ni­zed. It’s hard to avoid deri­va­tion, ain’t it a bitch.

   Seems quite big. I sup­pose it’s also nice when you’re watching it live (I never had the actual talent/understanding for art). I must say I admire your patience and effort to work at it. Let us know when it’s finished…

   Nice work if you can get it, having the pro­blem of being able to sell more than you can paint. That’s where I’d like to be some­day.

   Looks cool Hugh. I look for­ward to con­ti­nuing to watch you pro­gress. I may even dust off my can­vas as I have been mea­ning to do so for awhile and watching you do it might make me set aside some time to be crea­tive with some paints.
