the blue monster express

There’s a Blue Monster bus driving bloggers from Silicon Valley to C.E.S. in Vegas on January 5th. I’ll be riding it, so will some other friends of mine. Robert Scoble has the skinny.
I wonder if, when Hugh Macleod started drawing little cartoons on the backs of business cards that he ever expected that one of them would be on the side of a bus? Can a bus be a “social object?” (That’s Hugh’s term for making something interesting enough to talk about. For instance, a bus? Not interesting. A blue monster express? Interesting!)
We’ll be driving this bus from Silicon Valley to Las Vegas on Saturday, January 5. We’ll have lots of streaming video and all that with tons of interesting bloggers and other people. Mogulus is helping Rocky and me produce a live video show from the bus too.
The bus will also be driving bloggers around CES during the show, especially between the main hall and the BlogHaus.
The bus was put together by Microsoft and the groovy cats at Podtech.

I’m definitely not a fan of Microsoft, as you know, but it’s great that they recognize your talent and amazing marketing skills.

i was reading a magazine today and i saw an add from the Microsoft Wine you draw… Blue Monster is it?

After CES, this bus will turn around and go home just like the cartoon suggests and at that point, Microsoft’s big changes to the world will still consist primarily of low-quality software, market domination through questionable OEM deals and illegal monopoly abuse, low-quality hardware in both their computer peripherals and game console lines, and holding back the entire Web by keeping Internet Explorer in the dark ages of standards support right through IE 7. Let’s all jump up and down and yell “yippity doo” for how great Microsoft is and how they are changing the world even though they are doing it in horrible ways.
On the bright side, your artwork is the only thing that actually looks good in that bus image; the rest of the bus design looks like a rejected Microsoft product box — not enough stars, lists, bullet-points, etc. to make the grade for a real Microsoft box.

…sounds like a potential title for an autobiography/marketing tome.

Shouldn’t that read: “I like to take money from Microsoft and brazenly bash Apple users cuz I’m a shameless whore.”?

I don’t mind the laugh at Apple users, there’s just something so tainted about it given your role with Microsoft. Funny how that works. Anyhow, thanks for being you.
Crawford, as an Apple user that runs Microsoft software, I’m not sure if I see Apple and MSFT as competitors. Without each other, both companies would be a lot smaller.
Secondly, if you care to browse through my archives, you’ll notice that my opinions of Apple haven’t changed much over the years.
If I am pro-Microsoft, it is for no other reason that certain people within that organization have been nice to me. Amazing how little things like that work so well…
