Ah, sometimes one gets a single image that summarises the gestalt of a rich and varied culture built up over centuries of struggle, enlightenment, and sheer intellectual effort.
Then there is Scotland.
No offence taken, I’m sure.
In June, I was riding a bus in Edinburgh, and two NEDs, as I was later told they were, were talking up a storm, not a word could I understand except F-ing this and F-ing that. There were either coming from, going to, or between pubs. All part of the cultural landscape of Scotland.
