		<description>Hugh,
Thoughtful stuff.
The lines between ERP and social software are already blurring. At sapphire in Atlanta SAP demoed an procurement process that relied on informal networks and other &quot;social&quot; principles.
Wikis have become mission critical support applications in many organisations, and the integration between ERP and social media tools is on the rise.
The ability the larger software firms&#039; capability to adapt has been underestimated before, and I expect microsoft IBM SAP and others to be key players in this emerging world.
I sense a post is coming on this.
Thomas

		<description>Hugh,
Great insights as usual. Having just returned from Geneva I can underscore that people in Western Europe clearly are sharp in social media and it is picking up steam.

		<description>Hugh:
Two thoughts and a half. (1) There are a lot of smart people blogging on Belgium, some of those you might consider friends from Microsoft (that was the half thought, BTW, the ubiquitous Microsoft mention here...) and in Italy; (2) SAP seems to be a bit resistant to new business practices, including development for online applications [WSJ article with paid subscription here &lt;a href=&quot;http://tinyurl.com/yqgprb&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;http://tinyurl.com/yqgprb&lt;/a&gt; ]. This may help you answer the #10 why? question by Dennis.

		<description>Great post Hugh!
You are right on that how mgmt accepts social media is a big deal. There have been a few posts around this over the last couple of months, busy vs burst work styles.
