pic of me

sifryhugh.jpg
David Sifry took this picture of me back in Paris a couple of weeks ago. I suppose I’ve looked worse. Thanks, Dave! [Click on image to enlarge etc.]
[Music:] Been listening to this album all night. Cat Stevens meets Lloyd Cole meets William Blake. Amazing. Genius.

Happy Christmas so. I hope London doesn’t turn into New York for you. Cumbria sounded heroic, inspirational even. Good luck with it.

Aahh “the hand”..the “I have something on my mind” hand…The thoughtfull thumb ( what separates us from the monkeys) and the pointy finger displaying upwards movement and progression…”The hand was actually invented during the cold war by Kissinger, later to be picked up by many…Kissinger actually just called it “Hand”, but in the hands of George Bush, it quickly became “The hand” based on his love for the definite article and the band the the…(he calls them the the the…) Have a nice christmas Hugh. Looking forward to a whole new year of Gaping Void..

You look as you should look! Pensive and artistic.
    Happy Holidays!

I think it’s a pretty good picture actually. Makes you look younger somehow.
Also.. just bought that album entirely on your recommendation.. and yes, it’s great! I don’t really connect with your references (through ignorance of them, mostly) so I’ll call it Polyphonic Spree meets E.L.O. meets Lambchop for anyone else who might be inspired to buy :)

Check out the “Avalanche: Illinoise outtakes and extras” it is the b-side to Illinoise and it is , in my humble opinion, a better album. ;) cheers

Hsien said the picture made you look “pensive and artistic”.
I was thinking “mischievous and a bit dangerous” ; )

Love that record too. Though “Belle & Sebastian meets Philip Glass” is what occurred to me.

Hugh, if you’re enjoying Sufjan you could do worse than pick up the Joanna Newsom album (“Ys”). Wonderfully talented harpist and singer-songwriter. Not exactly similar, not exactly dissimilar, if you see what I mean.
