why i love paris

Why I love Paris. Watch this film clip I made last night.
[Update:] This restauarant is on The Rue des Envierges, in the 20th Arrondissement [East side of town, Right Bank, get the map here etc. ]. I don’t know its name but it’s the only restaurant on the street, so it’s easy enough to find. Directly opposite a large archway. I had the steak and pomme frites, they were great!
[My favorite bar in the world.] Harry’s New York Bar, near the Opera, in Paris. Allegedly where the Bloody Mary was invented.

"Hugh's Daily Cartoon" Newsletter. A new cartoon sent out every weekday morning to your inbox [RSS version here.]. A wee chuckle to start your day off right etc.

  1. That’s awesome, Hugh. Which cafe was that? Chris and I will be out there in September and I want to see it for myself!

What I love about Paris is that it exists in the future!

  3. Great movie. I have to go there and share that great love for Paris. I do feel the same for Italy.

  4. It’s virtually impossible to get a bad steak frites in France. Period. (Especially when it’s a steak au poivre.)
Next time you’re in Paris, go try the Wepler restaurant near Montmartre. It’s the best seafood in all of Paris. Their oysters are unbelievable.

    Hi Olivier,
Yeah, I’ve had GREAT oysters in Paris [at a place in St Germaine called Hotel Lutetia…]
The reason they’re so good there was told to me once by an english Michelin-starred chef.… the best Oysters come from Brittany. I imagine your place gets them there a well…

  6. Harry’s New York Bar, oh yeah!! When I was in Paris in 1999 for the global marketing conference of a certain international corporate, a few of us late owls found this place and we were dancing on the tables and chairs until sunrise…
By the next night word had surreptitously spread and all the party people from the conference (about 40 out of around 300) congregated there around midnight.
Highlights included: a senior partner buying all the drinks all night; being whirled round the (by then) dancefloor by that same person with a rose between his teeth; the UK and Ireland marketing reprobates belting out New York New York and getting the whole bar to join in; the smirks on our tired but happy faces in the conference each day afterwards, knowing that there were fellow human beings among us.
Harry’s NY Bar will do that to folks, it sorts the wheat from the chaff ;-) Thanks for the reminder Hugh.

    Hello !
I’m French, more particulary “parisienne”. I don’t speak very well english but I just want to say you Paris is a very very great place. I love leave here but it’s not all the time easy to do that if you don’t have money ! That’s normal of course because to make a living, you must have money now! Nevermind, You have to know that in Paris, there is no only bread, cheese, wine, frogs, perfumes and musics with “accordeon” (the instrument what is holling by the old lady on the photograph).
    The city of the fashion.
“Paris, la capitale de la mode, du glamour, de l’amour” Paris it’s magic. Paris it’s yours, like mine. Et n’oubliez pas que les parisiens ne sont pas tous méchants ! (and don’t forget “parisiens” are not all bad)
I hope you will come back in paris ! Good bye
