As a kid my parents and I would spend our summers in big bend. I can remember eating at all the little restaurants down there, visting the observatory, hiking and camping. Have you ever been down there? It's been a few years, but I'll bet it is still wonderful, especially with an expert to guide you around the area and point out interesting facts about geology. I've been on several week+ backpacking trips to Big Bend, and it is one of the most rugged, beautiful, and fascinating wilderness areas I've been to.
