Very cool… Tom Skerous saw a case of Stormhoek in his local Majestic wine shop here in England, and so he went ahead and Flickr’d it.
It’s moments like this that your inner marketing maven feels so proud and happy… when you know your marketing IS working.
[And when I define marketing as “working”, I mean it less in terms of “selling”, and more about “how the people who matter to you are connecting with what you do, for all the right reasons”.]
But is it working with enough people? Is it working with enough people, enough of the time? That’s another issue altogether.

Every time I get a train down to London I buy a cup of coffee from this guy. A nice, piping hot cup of java, right there in the train station.
Besides the coffee being good [comparable to Starbuck

Just a thought: Are any of you downloading and printing the drawings [in accordance with my licensing terms etc.], and maybe hanging them up somewhere [office, home, bar, whatever]? If so, please send me or blog any photos of them you might have– I’d love to see where they’re ending up. Thanks!
[UPDATE:] The Head Lemur has a gapingvoid print in his bathroom. Rock on.

Michael Kamleitner has made a very cool sidebar gapingvoid widget for WordPress [Get the plug-in here]. Thanks, Mike!
In an email, he says it:
* fetches the newest pic from your feed
* caches is locally
* displays it in any arbitrary size (max 400x225)
* links directly to your blog (in the headline and the image itself)
I like. You?

In blogging terms, the Brits have three great online heavy hitters:
1. The Economist.
2. The Guardian.
3. The BBC.
Actually, there’s now a fourth. Open Democracy.
Jeff, I hope you’ve picked up on it. Articles like this one. Brilliant stuff.
Serious kudos to them. I hope you’ll check it out.

The story here on Bloomberg is a familiar one. Google dominates the Advertising Search market, Microsoft tries to play catch-up with MSN and fails miserably.
Whatever. Google’s neverending dominance can only mean one thing: it will keep raising its prices, slicing value-for-money off the offering, one disgruntled customer at a time. It will, because it can.
So if you can’t be the best, Microsoft, then be cheaper. Therein lies your opportunity. Hey, it worked against Apple.

Alamo City Lunch Meetup podcast:
Eight of us got together to meet other bloggers and blog readers in San Antonio and to talk about Stormhoek’s disruptive marketing campaign in the US. Oh yes, and we sampled the wine too. Good stuff by the way, very fruity and fresh tasting. We also talked about marketing strategies through blogs in general, and of course, gave our opinions on everything.
The medium is the message. Indeed.
It was a very interesting podcast, truth be told. I’d urge anyone in the PR field to have a listen.
[Thanks to Kami, once again. And there’s also a really good write-up here.]
Jeremy Bellenger reminds us that The Cluetrain has a dark side:
What I find interesting is so many people, bloggers included, forget they are often the person providing the alternative, working longer, harder and less securely than ever before to be the one winning the business, and

Plus I hand-signed all the brochures. Rock on.
[UPDATE:]

Alan Weinkrantz wrote a very kind summary post about the first Geek Dinner, that happened yesterday in San Antonio, Texas. Thanks, Alan! And thanks again to Kami.

The first Stormhoek Geek Dinner happened last night, apparently. Still waiting for reports [America is still asleep as I write this]. Thanks to Kami for making it happen.
Meanwhile, here’s an interesting development from PJammer:
Response to the Stormhoek wine-tasting event is going extremely well; RSVP now stands at 95 attendees as of 06:45, May 1, 2006. In addition to a fun-packed evening of wine and conversation, attendees will enjoy live acapella music, courtesy of the Stanford Harmonics. Question for the audience: I am now seeking an MC/Hostess for the evening to help me run things from the front end. Does anybody know a reliable, charismatic actress in the Bay Area who can fulfill MC duties that I can hire for the evening? Prefer somebody with an established acting portfolio (and has a demo reel), as well as solid referrals. If you are, or know somebody who fits the bill, please contact me at [my username] @gmail.com with resume/headshots.
All very exciting…
