looks like it was just a rumor…
Just got an e-mail from Rick Segal a few minutes ago:
I’m in China right now, typing this via my EVDO card on China mobile, looking at Technorati…
Looks like the rumor that China had shut down Technorati was a bit premature.
Anybody?

Seems not to be available from Beijing at the moment. Furl has been blocked for about a month now. It’s all about the cache. It’s worth noting that blocking of sites is sometimes not systematic through China — there are occasions where in some cities it won’t be possible to access a site while in others it’s still available. I have no idea why this happens.
I don’t think it was just a rumour Hugh — too many sites within China ran the story and Richard’s report is the only one I have seen disputing it.
It may be to do with Richard’s accessing it via EVDO — possibly they forgot to block it on the mobile gateway(?)
There are ways around the blocking mechanism. Hugh –the Rick Segal link seems broken?
