A little Hughtrain-inspired piece of Stormhoek marketing collateral. What do you think?
Is that ‘Stormhoek’ or ‘Kool-Aid’?
Love the truism that people thirst for what’s authentic. But as I think about the word “market,” it dawns on me that a market is a collection of buyers and sellers, which means people are selling something to believe in, commercializing a fundamental human need. And then I think of indugences.
Heh.
Maybe Stormhoek should launch a fortified wine and call it “blog kool-aid?”
I’ve just realized that perhaps the Stormhoek campaign is your attempt to disable your competition for the technorati 100 by turning them all into drunken raving loons? Well, no, but it would have been a funny strategy
I like this cartoon. I confess that I don’t like many of your other cartoons; not quite my favourite brand of humour. But this cartoon works for me on several levels:
1. “the market for something to believe in etc…” is a good phrase, nice on the tongue, and thought provoking.
2. the ‘insider’ allusion to the stormhoek as the progeny of the abovementioned idea, of the hughtrain in general.
3. the visual representation of how the stormhoek/hughtrain can transform individuals/everything else. visual, because the two people in the cartoon appear homogenous, bland, similar. but one is inebriated on both stormhoek and the hughtrain, and the other isn’t, but is aware of the significance of the stormhoek/hughtrain.
in short, i like the cartoon.
