A little Hughtrain-inspired piece of Stormhoek mar­ke­ting colla­te­ral. What do you think?

    Love the truism that peo­ple thirst for what’s authen­tic. But as I think about the word “mar­ket,” it dawns on me that a mar­ket is a collec­tion of buyers and sellers, which means peo­ple are selling something to believe in, com­mer­cia­li­zing a fun­da­men­tal human need. And then I think of indugences.

    Maybe Stormhoek should launch a for­ti­fied wine and call it “blog kool-aid?”
    I’ve just rea­li­zed that perhaps the Stormhoek cam­paign is your attempt to disa­ble your com­pe­ti­tion for the tech­no­rati 100 by tur­ning them all into drun­ken raving loons? Well, no, but it would have been a funny strategy

    I like this car­toon. I con­fess that I don’t like many of your other car­toons; not quite my favou­rite brand of humour. But this car­toon works for me on seve­ral levels:
    1. “the mar­ket for something to believe in etc…” is a good phrase, nice on the ton­gue, and thought pro­vo­king.
    2. the ‘insi­der’ allu­sion to the stormhoek as the pro­geny of the abo­ve­men­tio­ned idea, of the hugh­train in gene­ral.
    3. the visual repre­sen­ta­tion of how the stormhoek/hughtrain can trans­form individuals/everything else. visual, because the two peo­ple in the car­toon appear homo­ge­nous, bland, simi­lar. but one is ine­bria­ted on both stormhoek and the hugh­train, and the other isn’t, but is aware of the sig­ni­fi­cance of the stormhoek/hughtrain.
    in short, i like the car­toon. :)
