the plot thickens…

One thought — and it’s one that came from a recent dis­cus­sion — is the VC is even nee­ded within the Web 2.0 envi­ron­ment. If you can deve­lop and dis­tri­bute a new application/service with little capi­tal, what roles do VCs get to play if they can’t bring money to the table? Maybe this is what Rick is wor­king on.

Enqui­ring minds want to know– is there something afoot in the Ven­ture Capi­tal busi­ness? What sayest Fred Wil­son?

    We need to lower the barriers to entry for renu­me­ra­tion, to allow peo­ple who help get an idea going to get paid. The first one to do this right can make a large for­tune.

    VCs have only ever been nee­ded for a small, very spe­ci­fic group of busi­nes­ses. Most busi­nes­ses get either no fun­ding at all — except maybe the founder’s cre­dit cards — or fun­ding from non-equity sour­ces like cus­to­mers or banks. How much ven­ture fun­ding does English Cut have?
