english cut in copenhagen

BAR copenhagen b&w.jpg
Copenhagen is on my mind today for two reasons:
1. In a month I’m going there to participate in Reboot 7.0. A big blogging event, it should be lots of fun. And there will be a geek dinner in London with Robert Scoble 2 days before, on June 7th.
2. English Cut is going to establish a regular scheduled tailor’s visit to Copenhagen, every 4 – 6 weeks.
There’s a big Scandenavian tadition for bespoke. Mr. Anderson, of Anderson & Sheppard fame was Swedish. And Mr Halberry, the man who trained Thomas (arguably the greatest tailor of the twentieth century, by the way) also had a Swedish family/connection. Besides that, flights from Newcastle (our nearest airport) to Copenhagen are cheap and easy, courtesy of EasyJet.
Right now I’m just putting out feelers; it’s not offical yet on the English Cut website. First on my list is to find a nice, preferably small luxury hotel in Copenhagen. One not unlike The Hotel Benjamin, the hotel Thomas stays in when he’s in New York. Any suggestions?
Second on my list is figuring out how to get the Danish media interested in the story. Any ideas?
So that brings it up to 5 ports of call: Savile Row (London), Paris, New York, San Francisco and Copenhagen. Last on my list is Milan, which will come later. 6 ports of call will be plenty.
Anyway, as always, if you know any Scandenavians with a sartorial fetish, please spread the word. Thanks.

Finding a small luxury hotel isn’t that hard in Copenhagen. There’s a lot of them, since most luxury hotels here will probably seem small to you.
First is the famous (and very royal) Hotel D’Angleterre placed right in front of Kongens Nytorv and at the end of Copenhagens large shopping street, Str

  2. Have a look at http://www.woco.dk/ they have a nice overview of information about CPH, you should also be able to find some nice hotel.
As mentioned above Hotel D’Angleterre is really nice located. Another recommendation would be Radison SAS in the center. It does not meet the requirement small, but it is the tallest building in Copenhagen and has a great view over the bridge to Sweden, the airport, Tivoli and the rest of the city. Just make sure you get a room somewhere up in the tower. Nice located downtown as well. But if there is something in particular you like, please let me know. I am quite often on a stroll though town, so I have an opportunity to keep my eyes open for it.
I read about Reboot 7.0. Thinking about attending if I can find the money together (am a student here you know). But otherwise I would like to follow what is going on there. Could be interesting!
Good luck and if you have any questions, please let me know.

  3. I must — with all respect — disagree with Jacob and Jochem on the D’Angleterre and the Plaza. I’ve put up plenty of clients and business associates over the years, and none has had a good thing to say about D’Angleterre (gorgeous facade, and it stops there) or Plaza (the most overpriced, faux-English, psuedo-salon bar in Scandinavia).
Fox is certainly the newest thing in town: apparently great concept, but I’ve not seen it yet, or heard a service review.
If you were my client, I’d put you in the Admiral, overlooking the harbor or, if you wanted, one of the quasi-B&Bs in Frederiksberg or Vesterbro.
Finally, DR is an important medium, but they are so… tired. They’ll pick up a story or angle a day or so after everyone else has picked it to death. If you are looking for more sparkling media, you should be more diverse.
Also looking forward to seeing you at Reboot— can I get a bespoke card?

  4. Make your customers the marketing department

I’ve been reading GapingVoid for a few months now. Hugh has some very interesting insights, and…

  5. You could also look into the Hotel Alexandra, which has some lovely individually furnished rooms, or Charlottehaven, which are individually (and tastefully) furnished flats-by-the-week.

As I stated I have never stayed at these hotels, but I’ve heard much bad about them either.
Admiral, which Allan states, is a great hotel although I believe they are in heaving constructing at the moment so it’s not that good a place to stay. I have stayed at Admiral and it’s a great hotel, although I believe some of their prices are a little overpriced comparing with their hotel status.
Another idea could be the Hotel Phoenix.

  7. Jacob B says:

Minor correction: I have never heard many bad things about them. Sorry about the typo.

  8. Geek Dinner in London with Robert Scoble (blogosphere President?)

If you're interested in attending add your name to the attendance list put up by Lloyd Davis on this wiki. The existing list shows that there's people coming from as far as Paris and Amsterdam!! The restaurant where this will be held is th…

The venue for Reboot 7.0 is The Kettle Hall on Frederiksberg, probablt the most bourgeois part of Copenhage a few miles outside the city centre. A very small but rather luxurious hotel that I’d recommend even though I’ve never stayed there is Guldfasanen, Nordre Fasanvej 1, 2000 Frederiksberg, phone: +45 3834 2071. It’s close to the venue and to the metro leading into town.
In the centre of Frederiksberg is Radisson SAS Falconer Hotel — nothing special except for the location. Good standard though.
    My last suggestion would be
    First Hotel Skt. Petri
