everybody wants the new theory

Recently on gapingvoid we all started talking about what comes after Cluetrain.
There was all kinds of great possible answers: Markets are relationships, markets are collaborations etc etc.
I think it’s actually far simpler than that.
What comes after Cluetrain? Answer: Making money with Cluetrain.
Everybody wants the new theory. I just want the cash.

We need more where the dick dryer came from.
Watching Hugh’s mind — live
Like a large huge number of people, I’m a big fan of Hugh Macleod, his artwork and his gapingvoid blog.
Markets are giving Hugh money.
If the conversations really = foreplay
Then finally getting the cash must = ?
The conversation can lost only so long, at some point you have to get down to business.
Amen brother.
Making money with the conversation?
In software, my plan it to make money by constructing a service. I’ve got some ideas as to what that service will be. I’ll charge for the service. In the mean time, I need to eat.
I want to use the Hughtrain to fund development. I’m looking at how to make money to keep myself developing, without handing over ownership of my work.
The WordPress, Bittorrent donation route, working for tips, is probably the best way. Open source my work, take donations for development, eventually, I’ll be a position to host a service of my own.
My software might be open, the service easy to copy, but I’ll have the smartest conversation.
now yer just toying with me, yeah, I caught it..
Rock fucking on, Hugh.
Yeah, show me the cash… I’m actually a little bit tired of talking about it.
Nice little irony in the fact that your brilliant summation above is pretty much a conversation-stopper. Heh.
Making Money the Cluetrain way
Hugh has a posting about Making Money with Cluetrain. Very interesting.
No, John, It’s just that the blogosphere is not open on the weekend. I think we are all dying to have this conversation, that is, it is a brilliant summation, but a conversation starter.
How do you go about making money off of the smartest conversation? Assuming that we can all have the smartest conversation about something, how do we collect?
Easy, Alan. Charge people to listen.
